Niche areas for CSIR-Nehru Science Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Sector 39-A, Chandigarh-160 036

The Institute of Microbial Technology is a multidisciplinary institute with state of the art facilities. The institute is engaged in cutting-edge research to solve frontline problems in modern biological sciences and microbe-related biotechnology. The specific niche areas for the Nehru-postdoctoral scheme are:

1. Molecular Biology and Gene Regulation: Molecular biology of pathogens, gene silencing, stress tolerance, signal transduction, gene expression, genome-wide analysis

2. Immune Mechanism in Infection: Host- pathogen interactions, T- and B-cell activation, infectious agents, vaccine design, cell structure & microscopy.

3. Protein Design & Engineering: Enzyme structure-function relationships, protein folding and engineering, hyper-expression, structural analysis and modeling, and exploration of structure- based drug design

4. Applied & Environmental Microbiology: Exploration of microbial diversity, environmental biotechnology, biotransformation, extremophiles and their metabolites.

5. Bioinformatic & Computer Modeling: Computer-aided vaccine and drug development, genome annotations, protein structure prediction etc.

6. Bioorganic Chemistry: Enzymes and abzymes in organic synthesis, biocatalysis, discovery of new bioactive molecules.

7. Peptide Chemistry: Peptide synthesis, conformational characterization and modeling.

8. Biochemical & Fermentation Engineering: Fermentation & downstream processing of protein and enzyme, process development, bioreactor modelling and control.

9. Biosensors: Immunodiagnostics of pesticides and other environmental pollutants based on bioprobe-electronic interfacing.

10. Microbial Taxonomy: Search, identification and characterization of new microbial genera and species.
