KBC POST DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN BIOTECHNOLOGY 2009

Kerala Biotechnology Commission under KSCSTE invites application from eligible candidates for Post Doctoral and Pre-Post Doctoral Fellowship in Biotechnology for the year 2009.

The Post Doctoral Fellowship carries a consolidated amount of Rs 15,000/- + HRA per month and an annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/-.

The Pre Post Doctoral fellowship carries a consolidated amount of Rs 11,500/- + HRA per month and an annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/-.

Conditions

The research work shall be carried out in an institution under KSCSTE or any reputed R&D institution/University departments in India where research in frontiers areas of biotechnology is going on. The duration of the fellowship will be initially for a period of two years and extendable to the third year depending on the progress of the research work. Selected candidates will have to follow the rules and regulations of the institution where they are availing the fellowship. The candidate shall join the programme within three months from the date of award of fellowship.

Qualifications

For Post Doctoral Fellowship, the applicant should possess first class Masters Degree in life science including veterinary science, agriculture, forestry, fisheries or any Masters degree in Medicine followed by PhD with biotechnological aspects in the relevant field. The Pre-Post Doctoral fellowship is extended to candidates with first class Masters Degree in life science including veterinary science, agriculture, forestry, fisheries or any Masters degree in Medicine, and who have submitted their PhD thesis with biotechnological aspects in the relevant field. The Pre-Post Doctoral Fellowship will be converted to Post Doctoral Fellowship from the date of award of the Doctoral degree.

Age limit

The Fellowship is open to candidates below 35 years, but relaxable for candidates with minimum 5 years of Post Doctoral experience.

BRIEF DRESCRIPTION OF WORK Transcription is the first step in gene expression where most regulation occurs. RNAP core enzyme together with sigma factors and numerous regulators orchestrates the gene expression in bacteria. Our lab seeks to characterize the interactions among RNAP, sigma factors, and regulators required for various gene expressions in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The proposed work will use integrated biophysical, biochemical and genetic approaches, along with a recombinant in vitro transcription system to address two specific aims :
A. Determine the role of alternative sigma factors in gene regulation of M. tuberculosis.
B. Identify and characterize inhibitors of M. tuberculosis gene expression.

FELLOWSHIP : Rs. 12,000/- p.m., plus admissible HRA and Medical benefit.

“CSIR-Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme” has been instituted to foster high quality research opportunities to promising fresh PhD holders in the cutting edge areas of Basic Science, Engineering, Medical and Agriculture at CSIR laboratories.

Special focus will be for fundamental research in the inter-phase areas of science and technology. CSIR intends to offer one hundred (100) such fellowships every year for working in CSIR laboratories with stateof-art R&D facilities.

Eligiblity: Fresh PhDs within one year of doing PhD and also those who have submitted PhD thesis.

Though CSIR Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is open to Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin, a certain number (upto 20%) of fellowships may be offered to foreign nationals.

Tenure: Two years and extendable for maximum one more year based on outstanding
performance and recommendation from the Director of the CSIR lab where working.
