Admission Procedure

The Selection process leading to confirmed admission shall unfold in two stages as described below: Stage-I The Common Entrance Test (CET) for the admission process would be conducted online at the C-DAC, ATC, centres. Candidate can select the examination centre and time slot for CET center only after the upload of resent passport size photograph and receipt of the registration fees of Rs.500 /- at C-DAC, ACTS, Pune. Once the candidate selects the date of CET, it will not be changed under any circumstances.

Declaration of result

The result of the CET will be displayed on the website along with the percentile score of the candidates on the day of the result mentioned in the schedule. A message clearly indicating whether the candidate has qualified for Stage II & III will be displayed along with the percentile score in form of a “CET Score Card”. Candidate can view the details online for appearing for Stage II &III of selection process of August 2010 batch of PGDHI course. For this purpose candidates need to log on to the website using registration ID and password.

Candidate need to update the details of DD of first installment of course fees of Rs. 2,500/- on ACTS website & then send the same on or before July 16, 2010.

Stage-II

Technical and Personal Interview

This stage shall consist of a technical interview based on the syllabus of the CET and a personal interview of the candidate.

After the candidate successfully completes all the stages of the selection process, he/she shall be given a letter of Offer of Confirmed Admission to the PGDHI course on the that day.

Candidate need to update the details of the DD of second installment of course fees of Rs. 63,500/- on ACTS website and then send the same to “C-DAC, ACTS”, “Pune”. The second installment of the course fees of Rs. 63,500/- is to be paid on or before August 20, 2010.

How to Prepare for CET?

Course Fees

The total fees for the course is Rs. 79, 000/- (Rupees Seventy Nine Thousand only) to be paid in two installments by Demand Drafts drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of "C-DAC, ACTS" and payable at “Pune”. The course fee is inclusive of the course material to be provided to the individual student.
The first installment of Rs. 2, 500/- (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred only) is to be paid after the declaration of CET result and on or before the July 16,2010. Once candidate selects the centre for appearing for stage II of the admission process or the date of selection of the centre is over, the first installment of course fees of Rs 2,500/- will be non refundable irrespective of candidate is selected for the course or not.

Target Audience
The workshop will benefit researchers, faculty and students by providing hands-on training on screening of bioactive compounds from plants and industrial aspects involved in scaling up of production process.
Theme
The workshop will provide a holistic view of the entire sequence of events from screening for active compounds to scale up of production process. It will comprise laboratory (70%) and lecture (30%) components and provide hands-on training in:
• Bioactivity-guided fractionation: Secondary metabolite production from plants, screening for bioactive compounds using bioactivity-guided fractionation and testing them for anti-microbial activity and cyto-toxicity on animal cell lines.
• Diversity analyses: Bioinformatics tools will provide information on activity related to chemo/ecotypes.
• Scale-up during industrial production:
o Understanding of problems during scaling up production of bioproducts
o Economics of setting up industrial production units
o Manufacturing process, packaging and marketing issues
o cGMP, ISO norms and intellectual property issues
• Industrial Visit: Participants will be taken to Sanat Products Ltd. (unit of Dabur India Ltd.), Bulandshahar for exposure to industrial production aspects. This will create awareness about scaled-up production, global regulatory standards applicable for bioproducts and the necessity for conformance to norms for reaching a wider and international market.

Advanced Course in Bioinformatics

Advanced Course in Bioinformatics (ACB) jointly organised by IICT,CDAC & JNTU is a unique course in several aspects like

The main objective of this course is to provide an insight  into the value of rapid access to scientific information for education and research purposes

Course Focus

The end of the 20th century has seen an explosion of information discovered from living organisms, especially in areas of molecular biology and genetics. The focus of bioinformatics is dealing with this flood of information, coming from academic, industry and government labs, and turning it into useful knowledge:

  • What are the critical sources of information for advancing fundamental knowledge in biology,medicine,  Biotechnology, pharmacology, agriculture and related biosciences?

  • What are the best computing methods to be applied to collect,organize, analyze and distribute this information to advance this research?

  • How quickly can these methods be integrated with bioscience research to meet demands of rapidly growing body of data and to speed the flow of knowledge?
Course Structure

The Advanced Course in Bioinformatics is a Six months fulltime course consisting of thirteen modules and an industry relevant project. The continuous evaluation is a part of the course structure where in the students day to day work would be evaluated based on the performance through assignments and tests. Daily session comprises of 3 hours of classroom lecture followed by 4 hours of lab work.

Course Fee

The fee for the course is Rs.40,000/- for general candidates (18 seats) and Rs.50,000/-  for Industry sponsored candidates         (6 seats). The fee includes course material, computer facility & High Performance Computing facility. Hostel and Mess charges to be borne by the candidates separately. The selected candidates can stay in the IICT hostel, which is present inside the IICT campus as per the CSIR norms. Canteen facility is also available inside the campus.

  • Post Graduation (M.Sc.,) in Computer Science / Biological Science (Any branch of Life Science) / Environmental Science / Biotechnology /Chemistry / Agricultural Science / Maths /Statistics / Physics

  • Good Knowledge in Bioinformatics,Which requires exposure in Biology, Computer Fundamentals and  Programming concepts in C Language
Selection Process

24 Candidates will be admitted into the Advanced Course in Bioinformatics out of which 6 seats are reserved for industry sponsored candidates. Candidates will be admitted only after qualifying the Common Entrance Test (CET). This CET is based on Computer Fundamentals, Biology Concepts and General Aptitude. On the basis of performance in the CET, the candidates shall be short listed in the order of merit. Industry sponsored candidates should also appear for the CET. Separate merit list will be maintained for Sponsored candidates.
CET Syllabus for Advanced Course in Bioinformatics :

  • Computer Fundamentals  (40 Marks)
    ( Computer Generations, Classification of Computers, Computer Architecture, Number Systems, Boolean algebra, Computer  Codes, Primary, Secondary and tertiary memory, I/O devices, Computer Software (Operating System, Compiler, Interpreter, Assembler, Linker, Loader etc
    Algorithms, Flowcharts, Computer Languages (machine, assembly and high level languages), Planning a computer program, the stages of the software development cycle, goals of programming, Introductory Concepts of C language (using simple data types, doing arithmetic, making decisions, iterations, using libraries, working with arrays, functional abstraction and Input/Output )

  • Biology Concepts (40 Marks)
    (Fundamentals of Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Enzyme Kinetics and basic aspects of Biochemistry

  • General Aptitude Test (20 Marks)
