Theme

Cancer is amongst the most feared diseases in the world. In the 19th century, astute clinical observations made by clinicians and pathologists gave us some insight into the causes and outcomes of various cancers. The area of cancer research began to grow rapidly by the end of the 19th century.

Physicians have moved from being able to do very little to treat patients to achieving survival and cure rates no one believed possible. Just a few decades ago, young investigators and physicians were often told not to go into oncology because the disease is so complex and the clinical outcomes were so discouraging. Today, oncology is one of the most exciting fields in biomedicine because of the many astonishing advances research continues to yield.

Research is must for the development of new effective anti-Cancer medicines, and improving the existing anti-Cancer treatment. This workshop will aim to raise research questions associated with candidate anti-cancer medicines, their clinical trials in northeastern India and other relevant research questions that are concerned with such a high prevalence rate of cancer in this geographical region of India. This workshop will help the participants to understand better the prospect of clinical trial and research in the field of cancer in northeastern India.

Organization

Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC), Silchar is organizing its first national workshop on clinical trials in cancer in northeastern region of India.

Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC), established (in 1996) and administered by a non-profit NGO, the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society, is located in the outskirts of Silchar town in the Barak Valley of Assam in India. The hospital serves an extremely underserved and economically impoverished community of patients from the Barak valley districts of Assam state and from the states of Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.

The hospital sees more than 4000 new and 10000 follow-up patients annually. The last few years have seen a steady rise in the workload of the hospital testifying to the faith the community has developed in the hospital. The hospital makes efforts to offer the best treatment possible to all the patients irrespective of their socio-economic status.
