Applications of Advance Microscopy, Real Time-PCR, Fermentation Technology and Bioprocess Modeling and Simulation

Who can do this course?
Postgraduate and under graduate students can join this hands on training program. This training program shall provide exposure to the advanced tools and techniques in biotechnology like, PCR, RT-PCR, Fermentation and Bioprocess Simulation and Modeling. Each participant will be given training material. The training will be held on systems from Leica Microsystems, Germany, Applied Biosystem, US, and Solaris, Italy.
Syllabus:
1) Microscopy:
i) Basics of microscopy (Optical, physical theory with application to Biological sciences).
ii) Different contrasting techniques like Bright field, Dark field, Phase contrast, interference contrast, Polarization and fluorescence contrast.
iii) Basics of fluorescence and fluorescence microscopy.
iv) Versatile software from Leica Microsystems, Germany, the FW4000-its features, various modules with demo run and hands on training.
2) RT-PCR:
i) Introduction to RT-PCR, real-time instrumentation and overview.
ii) Sample Processing: DNA/RNA Extraction and Purification for Real-Time PCR
iii) Principles of Quantifications.
iv) DNA and RNA quality control.
v) Probe Chemistries and Real-Time Instrumentation including Amplification, Assay Development
vi) Quantification and data analysis
3) Fermentor:
i) Batch processing using automated and versatile software operated 5 L Fermentor from
Solaris, Italy.
4) Bioprocess modeling and Simulation:
i) Introduction and various Industrial applications.
ii) Hands on Bioprocess Simulation
5) Introduction to Bioinformatics
i) Introduction and scope of bioinformatics
ii) Databases and search tools in molecular biology
iii) Primer design tools for PCR
iv) Literature search tools in techniques
v) Introduction to genome sequencing
