SELECTION PROCEDURE for IGIB PhD 2011

Candidates will be intimated bye-mail to appear for a written aptitude test of two hour duration on 26.06.2011 at any of the four test centers at Delhi, Pune, Kolkata or Bangalore. Candidates should note that non-fulfillment of the eligibility criterion will result in cancellation of candidature at any stage of admission process. The written test will be aimed at evaluating abilities to comprehend, analyze and reason along with the aptitude of the candidate in biological sciences. The result of the written test will be declared on IGIB website on 28.06.2011. Successful candidates will have to appear for interviews and discussion at IGIB from 18.07.2011 - 20.07.2011 (till 4.00 p.m.). Selection of candidates for Ph.D. program will be based on performance in aptitude test and interview. The result will be declared on 21.07.2011. The selected candidates are required to join IGIB on 08.08.2011.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility criterion latest by August 8th 2011. No TA/DA will be paid at any stage of the selection process.

Responsibilities:

• Executing field, laboratory and glasshouse experiments relevant to agriculturally beneficial microorganisms (particularly pathogens of insect-pests and antagonists of diseases) and botanicals targeted at developing biological protocols of crop production.
• Maintenance, multiplication and supply of microbial cultures.
• Management and coordination of day to day research activities.
• Supervision and training of technicians and scholars.
• Maintain and update electronic databases.
• Statistical analysis of experimental data.
• Assist the scientist in the preparation of technical reports.
• Any other responsibility that may be assigned by the scientist in furtherance of the cause of the institute.

Requirements:

• Post-Graduate in Plant Pathology/Microbiology or related discipline from a reputed university.
• Experience required: minimum of 2 years of practical work at a research institute, university or private sector company.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under lab, field conditions for extended hours.

• Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office) and statistical software.
• Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral). Knowledge of local language (desired).
• Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in a multicultural team.

The position is initially for 2 years, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
