IICT invites applications from highly talented and research oriented candidates interested in pursuing PhD Program at IICT for the Academic Session starting in August 2011.

Eligibility:

Candidate must fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

i) First class M.Sc. degree or equivalent in Chemical, Biological sciences AND
ii) Qualified in CSIR/UGC-NET Examination with a valid Rank OR candidate with a valid DST Inspire fellowship in the above disciplines
Please note that the candidates who have passed NET examination under Lectureship category only are NOT eligible.

Selection:

Selection for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be on the basis of the interview(s) of short listed candidates at IICT. Presently there are 17 Vacancies in Chemical Sciences and 3 Vacancies in Biological Sciences.

Fellowship:

Candidates selected for the PhD Program at IICT shall draw their fellowship and other allowances, contingency etc., as per their scheme.

Should have an M.Sc. degree in any area of Life Sciences

Qualified in the CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT examination for Junior Research Fellowship and Fellowship should be valid as on the date of joining. . (Candidates who have qualified only for Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) and the “Project List of ICMR & category ‘B’ of DBT examination” need not apply).

Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be as directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. Age relaxation will be 5 years in case of SC/ST/Women/PH and 3 years in case of OBC candidates.

Reservation will be as per the Government Of India guidelines.

The engagement as a Project Assistant in the projects is purely on temporary basis maximum for the period of duration of the project. However, appointment will initially be offered for a period of one year and will be extended on yearly basis till the duration of the project depending on the satisfactory performance of the incumbent. The appointment can be terminated by either side by giving one month’s notice. Total duration of project assistantship in CSIR Laboratories is maximum of 5 years. Therefore, if an incumbent switches between the projects, the appointment will terminate on the day he/she completes 05 years as a Project Assistant. The Junior Research Fellow (Science Communication) will be responsible for supporting the collection, development and distribution of media & marketing communications materials, including website materials, inputs, annual reports, implementation of tactical and project plans, preparing & consolidated data for project proposals and reports from the Office of the Director as well as reporting project results to the Director.

Job Description

Junior Research Fellow (Science Communications) is responsible for supporting the Office of the Director in the development and distribution of materials on Grub's digital and media channels, specifically online multimedia communications, annual reports, project reports and for assisting the General Manger (Public Relations) with media relations activities.

Key functions include:

  • Writing/External Materials Development: Research, prepare and distribute written and audio/video materials including annual reports, reports for funding agencies including the Department of Biotechnology or other relevant audiences that further the institution's external communications goals; consistently meet deadlines (multimedia content, web content, etc.).
  • Digital/Social Media Program Support: Monitor the latest trends in digital/social/industry media. Identify opportunities and implement social media content distribution strategies.
  • Develop Web content for external communications, publications, institutional blog and social media channels.
  • Media Relations: Working with General Manager, research, develop and execute pitches to online and other publication reporters (broadcast, online/print, social media) to highlight and further the institutional mission; develop positive working relationships on behalf of RGCB and identify opportunities to introduce RGCB channels to the mainstream media. Assist in optimization of RGCB assets for Web audiences, including institutional newsroom assets, news release distribution and crisis communications.
  • Tactical/project planning: Track and report on progress and results of communications plans; assist General Manager and Director in development of strategic plans for the RGCB digital and new media program.

The Centre for Bioinformatics Studies: Centre for Bioinformatics Studies, Dibrugarh University in collaboration with RMRC (ICMR), Dibrugarh and NEIST, Jorhat pioneered in North East to establish Masters in Bioinformatics. The teachers, scholars and Scientists from these organizations, are imparting knowledge on Bioinformatics since 2007, July 17th. Why Bioinformatics: A fastest growing subject which aim to solve biological problems at molecular level by data acquisition, data maintenance, development of computational tools for data analysis and data integration. Thus, minimizing expenditure of conventional molecular researches, as well as speeding up the researchers for benefit of mankind through improving agriculture, veterinary, medical science etc.
The Syllabus: The syllabus is designed in a way to equip the students through data acquisition via wet laboratory experiments to analysis for Biologically meaningful information. Further, a project of 6 months the students have to carry out in research organizations /industries of Bioinformatics in any field of Bioinformatics.

Course Duration: 2 Years

Applications are invited from research scholars, post-doctoral fellows and young scientist/faculties from universities and research laboratories with relevant research interests and background, for participation in the three-day “Hands-on Workshop” on techniques like Raman Spectroscopy (RS), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Optical Tweezers (OT) and Patch-Clamp (PC) setupused in Biophysical and Biotechnological Research, to be held during 25th – 27th July 2011 at AU-KBC Research Centre, M.I.T Campus of Anna University, Chennai. Although the workshop is primarily aimed at research scholars and postdoctoral fellows, final year PG students with interest in pursuing research in field of biotechnology, biophysics, bio-photonics etc. may also apply.

On the first day of the workshop, there would be 90 minutes class room lectures on each of the four instruments (RS, AFM, OT and PC) by experts drawn from reputed institutions. The position is completely on temporary basis with maximum duration of three years. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, but can be curtailed or extended based on the performance of the candidate and discretion of the Competent Authority.

Qualification: Candidates having Ph. D. degree (awarded) in any subject area Life Science with throughout good academic record. The selected candidate is expected to work on "molecular regulation of root stem cells and root branching in plant".

Candidates with prior experience in the relevant area, expertise in advanced molecular biological techniques & basic bioinformatics tools are desirable.

Research Area: Plant molecular genetics and root development.

The Fellowship amount for the position will be given at par with the similar fellowships by DBT/DST.
