Admission Notice to M.Sc, Biotechnology and Biochemistry

Centre for Research and Post graduate studies in Biotechnology

The post graduate course, affiliated to Mangalore University, started in the year 2002. The department was recognized as a Centre for Research in Biotechnology by Mangalore University in 2008. The Department is one among 12 institutions in Karnataka selected for the Govt. of Karnataka's (VGST) sponsored Biotechnology Finishing School (BTFS) in 2011. Two advanced diploma programs are being offered by BTFS.

Objectives of the Department:

• To provide state of art knowledge and skills in Biotechnology.
• To generate manpower trained in Biotechnology suited to meet the needs of the industry and academia.
• To train students to pursue committed research in the field of biotechnology.
• To make a positive impact on human and animal health, agriculture and environment in the region.

M.Sc. Biotechnology

Eligibility criteria: Students with B.Sc. in any branch of Life sciences and Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the subsidiary subjects are eligible to apply. The students are admitted based on their performance at the entrance test and interview conducted by St. Aloysius College.

Ph.D. program in Biotechnology: As per notification by Mangalore University.

Admission based on entrance test and interview conducted by Mangalore University. The mandatory course work for PhD is offered at the department.

Three recognized research guides with the following thrust areas:

• Development of molecular markers to study biodiversity
• Molecular and biochemical aspects of metabolic syndrome, diabetes & cancer
• Neurosciences-Immediate early gene expression, brain mapping

One year advanced Diploma course (BTFS): 2 specializations with 6 months of course work and 6 months internship in industry

Eligibility criteria: Post Graduate in Life sciences / BE (Biotech). Admission is based on state common entrance and interview conducted by BTFS committee, Government of Karnataka.
