Scientific Officer
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the position of Scientific Officer (IRRI) to be based atPatancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a nationally recruited position.
Responsibilities:
- Making single plant selection in segregating generations, facilitate evaluation of breeding line, planning and execution of field experiments, data analysis, and report compilation;
- Use of marker assisted selection (MAS) in rice breeding;
- Compile trials data from partners in South Asia, prepare work plan and conduct trials monitoring;
- Co-ordinate seed exchange with national partners involved in the activities of the project, carry out seed multiplication of seed received from national partners and ensure on time seed dispatch to all partners of the project;
- Ensure seed multiplication of identified promising lines in the project for participatory varietal trials;
- Supervise research technicians, contractual workers and maintain proper work plan and payment schedule for contractual workers
Competencies:
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English;
- Proficiency in Computer skills (Ms- Office, data analysis);
- Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team
Requirements:
- M.Sc. (Ag) in Plant Breeding and genetics;
- 2 years’ experience on germplasm evaluation in breeding trials;
- Knowledge of plant breeding design trials, data analysis, data and report compilation, seed exchange and coordination;
- Preference to candidates with knowledge and skills in the use of MAS for breeding;
- Excellent verbal and written English are necessary
General:
The position is for three years, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
